"Will God or someone else give me the strength to breathe the breath of prayer and mourning into my paintings, the breath of prayer for redemption and resurrection?"
--Marc Chagall
I love the tall pic. Is that a poppy flower? I love the delicacy of it.
Most everything I do has such thick strong lines...way back when, Mr. Linebarger told me that must be part of my style because he could always tell when something was mine just from looking at the lines...I have always wanted to be able to draw with delicate lines, but I just can't do it. My delicate lines are all shaky looking.
I don't know if you ever knew Amy O (she went to TCA through the 7th grade and was my Davidson roomie for 4 years)--anyways, she also draws with such a delicacy of line.
Your brainstorms are all beautiful, sweetpea, thanks for sharing.
kate--it's actally a hummingbird, but i can def. see why you thought is was a woodpecker--they do have long beaks and red/white heads, but are usually striped in tiny b/w zebra stripes.
the bird painting was sort of a draft. the beak is pretty inaccurate, for instance....my next one will be better, i'm thinking.
kellsey--yes, it's a california poppy. it's just a sharpie sketch, but when it becomes a print it will hand colored bright orange. :)
I wish I could do this. You have such a great gift, thanks for sharing it. I love them all, and can't wait to shop in your little booth. My family will love all their little Christmas gifts from sweetpea's store.
you know, sweetpea, about half an hour after i posted my *woodpecker* comment, i slapped my forehead cos i realised it definitely is a hummingbird.
i hate it when people say to kids: "what's that?" rather than something like: "tell me about your picture.." and i did it to you!!!!! *blondely but lovingly*
