Love of my life
Admittedly, this photo is at least a few years old. I post it because Macon is my best friend, lover, partner, soul mate. I also post it because we were in a vineyard in North Carolina, and I miss both the beauty of NC and the yumminess of a good red wine. I look forward to when I can savor both of them again.
For those of you who partake, may I recommend enjoying "Le Marechal" (a french swiss cheese) with a bottle of Tempranillo (a Spanish Red)? Please, have some and enjoy it for me. If you do, let me know what you think.
(and no, we are not planning on moving back to NC, but we'll definitely go and visit sometime)

mmmm, NC sounds nice.....looks like the photo was taken on a lovely evening.
lovely. so nice to put faces to your names. =)
hey----this is my homeland....not the vineyard--(although that would be nice)--but NC. love the picture with the light in the background.
have to check out that wine also.....
yum. i'm with ya on the cheese and red red wine. i bought two bottles of good aussie red today.. on sale yahoo....
i may have to crack open a bottle to go with pasta and mushrooms tonight..
but tell me: do you guys chill your reds?? i HAVE to have mine room temperature and was aghast when we went to london/paris in july and the merlots and cabernets were all chilled
*kate blinks in horror*
That's' crazy!!! I would never chill my reds. YUCK. I am in complete agreement with you that reds are definitely best room temp.
Those poor cabernets...will they ever recover?
For anyone interested in the Tempranillo wines, the great thing about them is that they are super yum and you get them for less money because Spanish wines aren't really "in" right now. I could usually find a very good one at my local Whole Foods or Central Market for $8.99.
i like all wines chilled, but i don't drink reds often--they give me migranes.
I'm a lightweight when it comes to wines. I love a light Pinot Grigio or a Sauvignon Blanc. My husband has been training me to beer. He loves wheat beer-hefeweizens (sp?) especially.
My hubby loves a guinness on draft or a bottle of newcastle ale. I on the other hand cannot stand beer. This is a sad thing as I have wanted at times to be the cool wife who likes to drink beer with her husband, but even that cannot change how badly I think the stuff tastes. I'm sure I'll survive. ;-)
kellsey
i know just the non-beer-drinking-chick beer for you.
i know becos it's the only beer i can drink.. to be the cool funky husband-impressing-wife lol
it's monteith’s radler.
Monteith’s Radler Bier has a level of residual sweetness to complement the added lemon juice. This combination provides balance and a degree of complexity to the flavour mix. Radler is only lightly hopped to ensure the bitterness character does not dominate the flavour.
After a hard days work (or a hike on the mountains), the refreshing citrus taste of Monteith’s will go well with asparagus rolls or a nice light spring salad. Or, you could match it the German way, with spicy sausages, cheeses and fresh bread.
you can get it here in NZ and it tastes very lime-y. gorgeous for a hot summer's night !!!!! or, when i've been hiking on the mountains lol
PS *kate breathes sigh of relief that you don't chill the reds*
